Welcome to MixedKnot. We are glad that you came across our blog. We are a mixed-race couple. Santiago is American. He was born and raised in the U.S. He is part American and part European. I am Filipino. I was born and raised in the Philippines. Similar to the majority of Filipinos, I am part Chinese, Spanish and of course Filipino. Santi and I met here in the U.S., fell in love, and decided to “TIE THE KNOT” after 6 months of dating. We came from different races and from opposite sides of the world. Hence, “MIXED KNOT,” we thought, would be an excellent tag for us and our family.

Santi has over two decades worth of education and training in pastoral care. I, on the other hand, have a science degree. Santi and I met because of healthcare or at least that is what we believe. He used to work as a hospital chaplain in the Northwest suburb of Chicago. At that time, I was teaching allied health in one of the private nursing schools in Chicago. Due to the fact that we both came from healthcare, we were matched. Everything else goes to our history book.

We are raising our two daughters, Y. Cazzandra and E. Celestina. Don’t try asking for their full names. You will definitely get screwed. Even the girls are having a hard time remembering the exact sequence of all their names. Anyway, our girls make our world. They make us see the brighter side when things get a little overwhelming. But, it would be hypocrisy if we say that they never stir us crazy. They do! Kids have been known to do that to their parents! Any parent could vouch for that! Curious yet? Please visit our YouTube channel for some of our family videos.

Our intention for creating this family blog and our YouTube channel is to show people from all over the world what real life is like for ordinary citizens or the working class in the U.S. We are aware that people dream of migrating here to live the “American Dream.” We want to show those who intend to come to the U.S. what they can expect especially my fellow Filipinos or “kababayans”.

The videos that we have on our YouTube channel include our family vacations, toddler, grade school, and teen daily activities, some toy reviews, our homeschool journey, extracurricular activities, some American and Asian cooking, plus our career life. Basically, our channel is packed with our family’s day-to-day life here in the U.S.

Another goal that we have for creating this blog is to create a supportive community among American-Asian couples. We all know how tough it is to get adjusted in any relationship. People have individual differences. Right? Couples need to figure out these differences in order to find a common ground where both individuals feel respected. Mixed-race couples deal with a magnified version of that. Other than individual differences, there are other varied issues that come into play. We also need to consider our cultural differences, traditions, parenting style, and a lot more.

We all need stable support from people whom we know we can trust or those who can relate to us and the multitude of issues that mixed-race couples face daily. We would like our website to be an avenue or a portal where mixed-race couples like us can communicate and support each other.

We hope that through this blog we can create a wonderful support community that we all deserve.

Thank you and stay safe everyone!

Our Thoughts on Family Unity, Love, and Parenting

“Bear with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgive each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.” – Colossians 3:13

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

“Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.” – Proverbs 29:17

Let’s build something together.
