In the fall of 2021, amidst the ongoing pandemic, many families like ours sought a much-needed escape. One popular destination in our area that offered both education and entertainment was the Museum of Science and Industry or MSI Chicago. Being in close proximity, our family saw this as an opportunity to enjoy a quick pandemic getaway while still adhering to safety guidelines.
The Museum of Science and Industry is known for its interactive exhibits and engaging displays. Being there provided our family with a perfect blend of learning and leisure. The girls eagerly explored the captivating exhibits that ranged from space exploration to technological innovations, all while following mask mandates and social distancing measures. This ensured a safe environment for us, the girls, and everyone around us to enjoy the experience.

It was not our first time at MSI. It was just one of our several regular visits there. As a family, we love to spend time in museums, parks, libraries, historical landmarks or any place where we could learn and at the same time enjoy our time together. Our family is fortunate to be rooted in a place with so many learning resources. Chicago is such a beautiful city with so much to offer its residents and visitors.
The autumnal ambiance of Chicago added to the charm of our family’s getaway. The colorful leaves falling gently from trees created a picturesque backdrop as we strolled along the museum’s expansive outdoor spaces. The cool breeze from Lake Michigan and the mild Fall temperatures enhanced the joy of the visit, allowing us to fully relax and make memories.

Inside the museum, the girls marveled at the hands-on exhibits that ignited their curiosity and encouraged them to learn about science and technology in an interactive and engaging manner. We were delighted to see Esperanza and Yzzabella exploring, asking questions, and engaging with the displays, making the trip not just enjoyable but also educational.
We definitely enjoyed some snacks and meals from the food court that we took outside to eat in order to follow safety protocols. The museum staff ensured that sanitation and cleanliness were maintained at all times, giving parents like Santi and myself peace of mind.
Overall, our family’s fall 2021 getaway to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago provided us with a memorable experience during a challenging time. It allowed us to escape from the monotony of pandemic life while also adhering to safety guidelines and creating lasting memories that combined education, entertainment, and quality family time.

As a mom, I can’t stress enough how important it is to take the time to bond with your kids, and one of the simplest yet most rewarding ways to do that is through something as natural as a walk outdoors. In today’s busy world, it is easy to get caught up in the daily hustle; work, school, chores, etc, but nature walks offer an amazing opportunity to slow down and really connect as a family.
Walking is such an easy, accessible form of exercise, yet it is so beneficial for everyone, especially growing kids. It gets the heart pumping, strengthens muscles, and improves overall fitness without being overwhelming. In a world where screens often dominate our free time, getting outside for a walk helps remind us and our children that staying active doesn’t always have to be complicated. It can be as simple as putting on shoes and stepping out the door.

Beyond the physical benefits, there is something incredibly special about being in nature together. As our family walks, we talk. It is often during these relaxed moments that our kids open up about their thoughts, worries, and dreams. There is something about the quiet, peacefulness of nature that encourages conversations that might not happen in the busyness of everyday life. On our walks, we are side by side, experiencing the beauty of creation together, and that creates a unique emotional bond. It is a chance to be fully present without distractions, and that presence builds trust and deepens family relationships.

Whether we are strolling through a park, exploring a trail, or just walking around our neighborhood, those shared moments in nature become precious memories. They teach our girls, Yzzabella and Esperanza, the importance of slowing down, appreciating the world around them, and valuing time spent together. For us as parents, it is a reminder that while the daily grind is important, nothing compares to the moments of connection we create with our kids. And what better way to do that than a simple walk, hand in hand, surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation?
Nature walks are also an incredible opportunity for us to teach our girls about the world around them in a way that is engaging and hands-on. As parents, we don’t have to be science experts to spark curiosity in our kids. Just walking outside, we can point out the changing seasons, talk about how plants grow, or observe different types of birds and insects. It is amazing how much science is right there in front of us, and kids naturally love to explore and ask questions.

Once, during a nature walk, we stopped to examine a leaf with a caterpillar while we also listened to the sound of the wind blowing, we were teaching little Esperanza to observe the world closely. We taught her about the life cycle of the butterfly and that of plants. Yzzabella was enthusiastically explaining to her sister how the sun helps things grow or why animals behave the way they do in different environments. Nature at that point became a perfect outdoor classroom for our family, and these little lessons learned during nature walks don’t feel like school they feel like discovery and adventure.

These types of family walks can also increase a sense of wonder and appreciation for the environment, something that is so important to instill in kids from an early age. They begin to learn how everything in nature is interconnected and how we, as humans, play a role in taking care of the Earth. It is science, but it is also teaching responsibility and respect for God’s creation.
Our walks strengthen our family bonds and keep us stay active, we are also nurturing Yzzabella’s and Esperanza’s minds and encourage a lifelong love of learning. Nature walks give us the chance to combine physical activity, emotional connection, and learning all in one simple yet powerful experience.

As we have promised, another part of our animal habitat lesson is now available for download.

This week in our homeschool first grade science class, we are going to learn the different homes and habitats for some animals that we chose to study. We have created some visual aids for this lesson. Please feel free to download the files.

In this post we included some facts about rainforest animals. Please watch for the remaining lessons and free printable files about wetland, grassland, ocean, polar and desert animals. We will post one group daily for this week’s lesson.

There are varied ways to #learn. We chose to homeschool our kids not because we don’t believe in #traditionalschooling. It is more because we intend to give them #christianbased #education with #strong #stem background.
It is almost impossible to get all that in either public or private school. You will probably get one depending on which school you choose but you won’t get both. Santi’s expertise is #religion and I have a #science degree, we both felt the need to give our kids their #best chance to develop optimally.
Santi had over 10 years experience teaching in grade school and middle school while I had few years experience teaching science in a junior college. We are definitely not experts but we are constantly researching to make us more effective teachers for our kids to benefit in our homeschool.

My 5-year and I had our homeschool session this morning. We tried finger painting on a canvas. Trust me this art does not look as great as it is in the picture. The camera made it look more vivid but we are very happy with the outcome.
Materials used:
Crayola washable paint. You can find this everywhere even at Walgreens.

8 x 10 canvas available at the Dollar Store and all of your local art supply stores.

Foam brush available at Walmart, Target or the Dollar Store.

Life at work has never been as stressful as it is since the pandemic started. It has been seventeen months and we are still scrambling to get over this pandemic. I am apolitical. I don’t care which side you are at. I just know that the virus exist. It is not a hoax nor is it a political propaganda. People are dying yet some still insist that it is non-existent. If not, they downplay what this virus is capable of.
We all have families. The people who work in healthcare like me also have families. We sacrifice ourselves and the safety of our families to serve our community. We are getting exhausted. A lot of us are burnt out. A lot of us already quit. When will others start caring for the community? I could only wish I know the answer. Witnessing how lives are taken by this virus in a blink of an eye is more than just taxing.
Yes, healthcare workers may have seen death hundreds of times before the pandemic but we haven’t experienced seeing more young adults fight for their lives. It is heartbreaking. The emotional trauma that we in healthcare are enduring affect not just us but our families too. Women like me who need to care for our young children at home after work are hit hard especially at this point when we are seeing kids getting sick.
I used to say that I am able to balance my work life and my family life very well. I don’t know how but I was sure that I did. Unfortunately, I could not say the same now. Each time I step out of my house to be at work, I immediately feel the stress. Everything is uncertain. I don’t know how my day will go. I don’t know what I am going to witness. It is tough!
I wish people can set aside pride and political views. I wish more people will think of the good deeds they can do for the community in the midst of a public health crisis instead of thinking that they are being stripped off their basic rights and freedom. I know I can only wish because the truth is there are a lot who can never think beyond themselves. Reality hurts but it is what it is.

We live in an era where women work to help provide for the family. For some, it is an option while for others it is a must. No matter what your situation is, I think we all agree that it is tough to balance life being a wife, a mom and a career woman. But, it is definitely manageable!
The question is, how do you balance it all? How do you prioritize things? How do you manage to care for your kids, support your husband, maintain your home and still succeed at work? Like most working Moms, I have no clue how I manage to make each day happen. All I know is that my life is never perfect. In fact, it is far from perfect.
My life is not easy but I know I am blessed. We all are! We just have to look around us and accept what we have been blessed with. It is called GRATITUDE. We need to start each day with a grateful heart. This is the secret recipe that is keeping me sane through the years. No matter how tough life gets, I still thank God each morning for all His blessings.
